Plantar
So you’ve decided to make a splash into summer and get that beach body back. You run down to your local council pool and swim lap after lap, feeling refreshed and fit. A quick shower before work and you’re on your way. But lo and behold 2 weeks later you feel a hard grainy spot underneath your foot. You’ve got a wart, and surely it was due to the Public shower or pool floor. Or was it?
What are they?
Plantar warts are hard growths that usually appear on the balls or heels of the foot, the areas that feel the most pressure. The increase in pressure could lead to a hard callus formation. Whilst unsightly the presence of warts is not a serious health concern. So how do they occur?
Causes
Plantar warts are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). This virus can enter the skin through tiny cuts or abrasions on the bottom of the feet, particularly in the high pressure points. Whilst not being a serious health concern, plantar warts can cause discomfort or pain and sometimes will need to be removed professionally.
